Whoopi Goldberg has recently joined the ranks of celebrities who admit using prescription weight loss drugs openly, confessing to using Mounjaro (type 2 diabetes medication) while filming 2022 biographical drama Till.
Sister Act actress Janelle Monae weighed around 300 pounds while filming. Now, however, she has lost enough weight to equal that of almost two people, she noted.
The View host? who has been using the type 2 diabetes medication Mounjaro to slim down? confessed that she’s lost the weight of “almost two people.”

Whoopi Goldberg recently discussed Oprah Winfrey’s Monday night special about the extraordinary effect of prescription weight loss medications when discussing her use. She disclosed that Mounjaro – an FDA-approved type 2 diabetes medication designed to aid weight loss – helped her shed 300 pounds after producing and acting in 2022’s Till.
Sister Act actress Alma Carthan reacted with surprise at her own transformation after seeing photos taken on set, where she played Mamie Till Mobley’s grandmother Alma Carthan. When it first dawned upon her that action needed to be taken regarding her size.
That action included adopting Mounjaro, who she credits with helping her shift her metabolism and bring down to 200 pounds by the time the movie wrapped. She credits fast food, junk food and alcohol from her diet while adding exercise as well as wearing “high-quality” clothing including an oversized pair of cream overalls that show off her figure.
Hostin, 58, admitted she used Mounjaro (also sold under its brand name Ozempic) injections to assist with weight loss after she gained 40 pounds during the coronavirus pandemic in 2021; Hostin said doctors needed them as the only way to jumpstart metabolism post-back surgery steroids had contributed to weight gain.
Hostin and Goldberg’s confessions come as some celebrities openly criticize those taking prescription weight loss drugs for aesthetic reasons, especially Oprah Winfrey who was criticized for her use of Ozempic, which works similarly to Mounjaro by targeting brain receptors for impactful satiety regulation. Oprah herself faced scrutiny in December when her special focused on Ozempic use. But in it, she encouraged viewers to be kind towards one another when discussing body image matters.
Whoopi Goldberg hopes her candid discussion of her personal experience with antidepressant medication will help to shift public opinion, while Hostin echoed this sentiment by suggesting “perhaps the key is stopping judging everyone,” saying this may be necessary to “make life better”.?
The 68-year-old Whoopi Goldberg explained that’s her trick to looking so young.
Whoopi Goldberg made an admission during Monday, March 18’s episode of The View that she is using medications to assist in weight loss, specifically Mounjaro injections that also assist weight loss (type 2 diabetes medications that also aid weight loss). Oprah Winfrey hosted a primetime special that featured stars who are using prescription medications in an effort to shed extra pounds – among them Whoopi.

Since she started on her journey to shed excess weight, actress 68-year-old Anne Hathaway had long denied using any type of prescription medication to do it. However, during an interview with Kelly Clarkson for The Kelly Clarkson Show on Monday morning she revealed that a physician prescribed her an anti-sugar medication but did not name Ozempic by name publicly.
Former American Idol contestant Michelle was diagnosed with prediabetes in 2021 and went on to lose most of her excess weight by following medical advice, changing her diet, moving to New York City (where walking counts as exercise) and spending more time with her children. Michelle noted that she needed to purchase all new clothing to fit her slimmer figure; as it’s all that has been lost. Adding that overalls had become her staple garment as they represent all that she’s left without!
In addition to disclosing that she hasn’t gained back any of the weight she lost, The View host shared some of her favorite benefits of being thinner. These included no longer having thighs that rub together as often and being able to enter restaurants with her grandchildren more comfortably now that tables are at a comfortable height for her to sit at.
Although she did not specify exactly how much weight she has shed since November 2023, Extra TV reported that she is estimated to have shed 60 pounds since then. While proud of her achievement and hoping that it might encourage others to follow in her footsteps, the star found joy in sharing the journey that has empowered her and said it had been well worth the journey: “It is such an empowering journey; just have faith that everything will turn out fine! Watch the video below.”
Whoopi Goldberg also hitting back at previous criticism of her Oscars outfit.
Although The View hosts have long praised Sister Act alum Mary-Kate Olsen’s daring fashion choices, one look in particular brought her unwelcome criticism. Speaking to Page Six Style recently, this EGOT winner opened up about her controversial outfit at the 1993 Academy Awards that changed her fashion forever.
The View host, inspired by Lucille Ball, donned a lime green and purple jumpsuit emblazoned with matching bolero jacket, open front skirt lined in same color, heels, and chandelier earrings on the red carpet that year. Her ensemble was widely criticized and even appeared on various “worst dressed” lists at that time; although at first it had hurt her feelings deeply she now stands by her decision to wear such outfit.
Whoopi Goldberg had to reduce her red carpet appearances for some time following public backlash to her controversial dress, but has since found her style voice again and unapologetic for her bold choices. On The View she has worn everything from faux fur coats adorned with beaded images of bare-breasted women to clear platforms emblazoned with decapitated Barbie heads; furthermore she’s ventured into clothing design through Dubugee line of inclusive clothes and shoes.
Reclaiming her style, the actress recently returned to work after experiencing a health scare that almost cost her life. This month, the former 300-pound star experienced severe pneumonia in both lungs and sepsis – two dangerous complications of fighting infection – prompting a “wake-up call,” one which has inspired her to live as long as possible while continuing working on The View and film production projects such as new movies.
